The Fruit (and Veggies) of Wisdom

Sometimes wisdom comes from unexpected places. Have you ever remembered a random story, quote, or incident that brought unexpected clarity to a situation you were facing? God has a way of bringing things to mind at just the right time.

I have had a good week, and in this season where God is pressing us to raise the intensity and the priority of prayer, it never ceases to amaze me the untold riches and reward of following hard after Him. Seeking Him actually makes a difference. It actually produces real and lasting change inside me and around me. Sometimes prayer is rewarding in the moment; sometimes it feels like swimming in jello. And other times you wake up in the morning and realize that God in His kindness is pouring out answers to your layered prayers even before you ask Him. I love those mornings.

I also love VeggieTales. It has been a while since I’ve watched them, but growing up (I won’t say how old I was while still obsessed with children’s videos) we used to watch them and there are many of the simple illustrations that still stand out in my memory today. This morning I have been thinking of a quote from Madame Blueberry: “A thankful heart is a happy heart.”

When we open our eyes to see the goodness of God in our lives, it doesn’t take long for a profound sense of gratitude to come over us. We have been given so much, over and over every day, none of which we deserve or could ever repay. And yet our God continues His pursuit of us, blessing us in unbelievable ways. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change” (James 1:7). This is our God.

So let me encourage you today to count your blessings and remember that your Father loves you so much and that He gives you more every day -His mercies are new every morning! Keep seeking, keep knocking, keep asking, because He has infinite treasures in store for us if we will simply ask.
